Christian Year

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

IMG

This is something which is not celebrated widely and there is perhaps no agreement as to which is the appropriate day. However some churches do place it on the Sunday before Advent Sunday and so it is included here as marking the end of the Christian year.

The day is one to contemplate the “end of time” when Christ returns to establish his kingdom on earth [Matthew 24:29-31; John 21: 20-22; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18]. Some people call this the “second coming” of Jesus.

However, there is disagreement about whether the words of the New Testament are symbolic or poetic or whether they are to be taken literally. And even if literally, it cannot be known when “the end” will come [1 Thessalonians 5:1-2].

Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.
