Christian Year

HARVEST FESTIVAL

IMG

Traditionally, Christians have celebrated each year’s agricultural harvest with a special service called “Harvest Festival”.

Before the industrial revolution, many church-goers would have been employed on the land and have been involved in gathering the crops. The service would been very special to them.

Today, people living in towns and cities do not have much direct involvement with farming. Nonetheless there remains the desire to celebrate the harvest and to give thanks to God for the provision of food (and other essentials).

Harvest festivals are normally held in September or October and churches are decorated to reflect the ideas of harvest.
