Christian Year
EASTER DAY

Easter Day is the Sunday after Holy Week and it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, that is his rising from the dead [Matthew 28:1-10; Luke 23:55-24:9], and of all that this means for us [Ephesians 2:1-10; Colossians 3:1-4].
Easter eggs (chocolate or otherwise) are often given and received on Easter Day. This probably has non-Christian origins. However, the egg can be regarded as a symbol of new life, and new life is what Chirst offers through his resurrection.
In order to try to make Easter Day and Passover happen at the same time, the Date of Easter varies from year to year.
Christ the Lord is risen today; Alleluia!
All creation joins to say: Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia!
Sing you heavens; let earth, reply: Alleluia!
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won; Alleluia!
Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Alleluia!
Christ has burst the gates of hell: Alleluia!
Charles Wesley (1707-1788)
