Christian Year
COVENANT SERVICE
A convenant is a mutual agreement between two people or groups of people. In the Bible, particularly in the Old Testament, if is often used as an agreement between God and his people [Genesis 9:8-11; Judges 2:1-2; Jeremiah 31:31-34]
It has been a long tradition in Methodism (and in some other churches) for people regularly to renew their relationship with God and, in particular, to reaffirm their readiness to have their lifes ordered by him. This is usually done in a Convenant Service. Such services are often held annually in January at the start of the new calendar year.
