Christian Year
CHRISTMAS EVE
Here the word “eve” simply means the “day before” and Christmas Eve is 24 December which is the day before Christmas Day.
It is the last day of Advent.
It is usual for churches to organise a service of Holy Communion starting late in the evening so that it finishes just after the start of Christmas Day.
If an Advent wreathe or crown has been used during Advent, the fifth candle, representing Jesus, is lit at the end of the Communion service.
