WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
For various reasons (some political, some doctrinal) the Christian Church had split over the centuries into a large number of denominations and other groupings. It would appear that this was even happening within the early Church [1 Corinthians 1:10-12].
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is actually the eight-day period, 18-25 January. Sunday services during this time often consider the theme of unity. It is an opportunity to reflect on the divisions and to pray that Christ’s prayer at the Last Supper might be fulfilled [John 17:20-23].
