As with other Christian churches in the United Kingdom, the Methodist Church is an organisation independent of the state and receives no direct funding from the state. It does receeive some benefit from being recognised as a charity.
Solihull Methodist Church (which is a charity in its own right) relies upon the regular giving by its members and adherents and from its interaction with the local community.
We are always pleased and grateful for any donations received. If you pay income tax, then you should be able to mark your donation as Gift Aid which means that the Church can claim back, from the state, the tax you have already paid on your donation — at no extra cost to yourself.
At Solihull Methodist Church we normally acccept donations for one of two funds. Occasionally if we are undertaking a special project, a third fund may be introduced. The two normal funds are the following.
-
General Church Funds: These are funds which are used to maintain the general running, mission and outreach of Solihull Methodist Church, and also to contribute to the work of the Birmingham Methodist Circuit (of which Solihull Methodist Church is a part).
-
Benevolence Fund: This is a fund which allows Solihull Methodist Church to respond quickly to emergencies. This includes making donations internationally in response to disasters — both natural and man-made. It also includes making responses to particular needs within the the local community.
