‘Who do you say that I am?’
Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel (16.15)
Having faith in Jesus does not mean that we stop asking questions. Indeed, sometimes people of faith have to press questions further than those who have decided that life is meaningless. So we offer many opportunities to explore, discover and understand more.
The Alpha Course offers a non-threatening and enjoyable way to consider what Christianity teaches, over a meal, in a relaxed environment. Courses are run according to demand – at least once, and sometimes twice, a year with between twelve and twenty on each course. Youth Alpha provides teenagers with an opportunity to ask their own questions.
Housegroups are also places where questions can be asked and answers shared. They are held in members’ homes and usually meet twice a month. Bible studies series led by the Minister for any who want to attend are held once or twice a year, perhaps in a ‘special’ time of the year such as Advent, before Christmas, or Lent, leading to Easter. These are more formal, lecture style, but are always opened up for discussion and for questions.
For those who want to explore what it means to be a member of the Methodist church, confirmation classes are held annually.
